Alan G. Medders, Ph.D., spent more than 25 years in public and private higher education and brings a wealth of leadership and administrative experience to Higher Education Leadership Search.

His higher education career focused on the areas of advancement and foundation administration, including, comprehensive campaign development, strategic planning, planned giving, marketing, communications, social media and fiduciary and asset management.  He was a part of four comprehensive campaigns, leading the development and execution of three all of which secured more than $250 million in private gifts, foundation grants and state and federal grants and allocations.  Dr. Medders’ experience as an academic administrator, as well as serving on and chairing numerous search committees for provosts, vice presidents, deans, faculty, coaches, athletic directors, development and foundation personnel, and academic and division directors, allows him to provide counsel to higher education leaders and search committees throughout the entire search process.

Before joining Higher Education Leadership Search, Dr. Medders served as President of Myers McRae Executive Search serving as consultant on over thirty public and private institutional searches for Academic Affairs, Advancement and Business & Finance Vice Presidents, Advancement Officers, Academic Deans and Directors, state and national Executive Directors, Nursing and Cyber Security faculty.

During his academic career, he served as Vice President for Advancement at Columbus State University and Executive Director of the CSU Foundation; Vice President for University Advancement at the University of North Alabama and Executive Director of the UNA Foundation and Vice President of Development at Campbellsville University (KY).  In 2007 he was named a Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his work in higher education and philanthropy in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Also, he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Campbellsville University.

Dr. Medders holds a BA from Samford University, a Master’s of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Tennessee. He also did external graduate study work in higher education at the University of Kentucky. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Alan and his wife, Denise, reside in Anniston, AL and have two daughters and two grandchildren. Alison Duncan and her husband, Dustin and daughter Adelyn, live in Wetumpka, Alabama. Andrea Hutchings and her husband Philip and son Miller, also live in Wetumpka, Alabama.
