John P. McElveen, Ed.D. has over 30 years of leadership experience in a broad range of roles at public and private institutions, having substantial experience in Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Dr. McElveen retired from the University System of Georgia and Columbus State University in mid-2023 where he served in roles including Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and subsequently Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. During his final three years in Enrollment Management, the University achieved the highest three enrollments in its history to date. Upon moving into Student Affairs, Dr. McElveen led in creation of a Care Team model now utilized in trainings throughout the University System of Georgia and beyond. CSU recognized his work by establishing the Dr. John P. McElveen Creating Care Award, given annually to the University faculty or staff member who best exemplifies efforts supporting student success in partnership with the Care Team. As a graduate program instructor, Dr. McElveen taught History of Higher Education and taught courses in strategic enrollment management which he developed.

Dr. McElveen previously served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services at Middle Georgia College, holding addition responsibilities for several years for advancement and alumni affairs. Dr. McElveen also served as Interim President of South Georgia College.

Dr. McElveen served as Director of Admissions at Shorter College in his first role in higher education leadership. Prior to his career in higher education, Dr. McElveen was a registered architect with substantial commissions executed for clients in higher education and government.

Dr. McElveen served in a number of professional organization leadership roles including President of the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers. The association honored him with the Carol Nobles Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. McElveen received his doctorate in educational leadership degree from Columbus State University, his masters in education leadership from the University of Alabama, and from Auburn University his bachelor of architecture and bachelor of science.

Dr. McElveen resides in Columbus, Georgia with his wife Dr. Kimberly McElveen and their two dogs Chewy and Leia. They are the parents of five children and two beautiful grandchildren, Max and Charlie. Dr. McElveen enjoys creative hobbies such as drawing, painting, and building furniture, and loves to travel. He currently serves as Director of the Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance.
